Velociraptor

Velociraptor Description

Velociraptor Mongoliensis was a small carnivorous Dromaeosaurid which lived in Cretaceous Mongolia. It fed on small mammals, reptiles, insects, and it scavenged on other dinosaurs which were either deceased or injured. Unlike how they’re shown in “Jurassic Park,” Velociraptors were almost entirely feathered and were considerably smaller than their Blockbuster depiction.

Could You Outrun a Velociraptor?

Well, it really depends on if you’re a fast runner. The average human speed is 15 miles per hour, or 24 kilometers per hour. That’s considering the person in question is an adult and is running full sprint, like how they would run for their lives. And if you were being chased by a Velociraptor and weren’t naturally fast, you would have to. The average Velociraptor speed is calculated to be 25 miles per hour, and again, 45 kilometers per hour. Velociraptor was primarily a scavenger, so it did not have to be extremely fast. Also, its bite force of 304 newtons wasn’t anything to brag about. However, its size would make it an easy target for any larger predator. That’s why it needed to be such a speedy and agile creature.

Are You Bigger Than a Velociraptor?

The simple answer is yes. The average Velociraptor was only 1.6 feet tall at the hips, or 0.49 meters. It was quite long however, with a body that reached an average of 6 feet long. So, if you were laying down next to a Velociraptor, you would likely be shorter (in length) than it. But Velociraptors also didn’t weigh very much. It weighed only around 33 pounds (10.43 kg) which isn’t a lot compared to other colossal creatures of the time of the Velociraptor. It had a considerable wingspan of 3 feet (0.91 meters).
