Dilophosaurus

Dilophosaurus Description

Dilophosaurus (meaning “two-crested lizard”) is a slender, bipedal carnivore from the Early Jurassic, characterized by two thin, plate-shaped bony crests on its head. It was an agile, active predator with a lightweight build, long tail, and powerful front-facing claws for hunting. It did not have a neck frill or spit venom.

Could You Outrun a Dilophosaurus?

Dilophosaurus was a fast, bipedal predator estimated to run at speeds up to 20 – 30 mph based on musculoskeletal models and footprint evidence. This speed made it one of the fastest hunters of the early Jurassic, comparable to a modern ostrich or the average speed of Usain Bolt.

Are You Bigger Than a Dilophosaurus?

The real Dilophosaurus was a lightly built theropod, roughly 6–7 meters (20–23 feet) long, standing about 1.6–2.4 meters (5–8 feet) tall at the hip, and weighing between 283–400 kilograms (624–880 pounds), making it significantly larger than its Jurassic Park depiction. It was one of the largest early predatory dinosaurs.
