Carcharodontosaurus

Carcharodontosaurus Description

Carcharodontosaurus was a titanic predatory dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period in what is now North Africa. It possessed a massive skull armed with long, blade-like teeth featuring serrated edges reminiscent of a great white shark’s, a distinct feature that earned the dinosaur its name, which translates to “shark-toothed lizard.” This apex predator was built for slicing through the flesh of large herbivorous dinosaurs, supported by a powerful, muscular neck and a robust, bipedal frame. Its body balanced on two strong hind legs, while its elongated tail acted as a stabilizer during movement, making it one of the largest and most formidable terrestrial carnivores to ever walk the Earth.

Could You Outrun a Carcharodontosaurus?

No, the average human could not outrun a Carcharodontosaurus. Scientists estimate that this massive predator could reach top sprinting speeds of around 20 to 25 miles per hour (32 to 40 km/h). While an elite Olympic sprinter like Usain Bolt can briefly clock speeds near 27 mph, the average person runs at about 6 to 8 mph. Because of its massive stride length and powerful hind legs, a Carcharodontosaurus would easily overtake a human in a flat footrace.
